The fourth and such

Monday, July 9th, 2007

We went to my parent’s lake house for the 4th. It was nice, Desmond loved the fireworks on the boat. I erm forgot my camera so no pictures, oops.

I got to look at houses with my parent’s while I was there, they are going to buy their own house rather then sharing with my aunt and uncle. Because both my parents and aunt and uncle plan to retire to the lake house. So they want their own. We looked, we discussed. We discussed and discussed and my parents came to a decision and put in an offer. So we’ll see how it ends up. I like the house that they are probably going to end up with though it only has two guest bedrooms.

Overall, it was a nice week with my family at the lake and even Dan seemed to enjoy himself some. We also got Desmond’s 3 month photos taken yesterday so I’ll try to post a few of them later. Maybe update the blog header.

Desmond updates and the rest of us

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Okay so I haven’t been great about updating recently. I’ll blame the baby, plus an extremely busy May. We’ve basically had something to do every weekend this month and won’t slow down till June. Desmond has been great he is a wonderful baby.

I love his cloth diapers they are fairly easy to deal with, and the extra laundry isn’t too bad.

He is really alert now at 6 weeks old and tends to be up for about 6 to 8 hours a day at this point in time. He is starting to show interest in toys which is nice. His eyes are still blue as well. He rarely cries which is really appreciated, he seems to cry when he is either hungry or needs a diaper change.

So far he has been to the Hindu temple and blessed, to a friends wedding, and to my cousin’s graduation party. He has also been to a ton of restaurants and done really well there as well.

As for his growth he is up to about 12 pounds now and 23 inches (he was 11 pounds 23 inches at his month check up). He is a solid baby and really cute. We’re still semi debating which shots we’re starting with at his next appointment, I think we’re just going to start with the DTaP and do the Prenever and Polio shots/spray (or whatever the Polio one is) at 3 months.

We’re going to be taking the train up to NYC this weekend which should be interesting, we’ll see how he does on the train and then on Monday he and I are flying down to Atlanta to spend the week with my parents. We’re going to be going to the Aquarium one day, so he’ll get to look at all the fishies and we’re going to be at the lake house for a few days as well, we’ll probably take him out on the boat if the weather is nice.

Other then that, K-line is getting use to the intruder, and Dan and I are doing fairly well. Not much else going on especially without Desmond, since he is so little so where we go he gets to come along.

Now for a couple of semi-recent pictures:

This was tummy time

It’s a happy baby

Baby Pictures

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Here is a link to the baby pictures i promised in the last post a week or so ago. I need to put new ones up since he has changed a lot in the past 18 days. However, I’ve been a bit lazy with the c-section and new baby and all.

In other news he is growing well and sleeping through the night at the moment, which is really nice. I’ll try to update more later.

Desmond Kiran Singhal’s Birth Story

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

I went into the hospital last Tuesday to start my induction. Had the cervical (or whatever it is called) inserted and then spent the night sleeping/reading/getting my self prepared. Wednesday morning I ordered breakfast and then we started the pitocin (spelling) around 8:30am. First few hours went semi-slow, but around 2pm I felt a small gush and told the nurse my water had broken. Felt a larger gush at that point in time, and I was right.

From that point on things started moving a bit faster I went from 2cm to 6cm in about 3 hours at which point in time, I decided I wanted an epidural. I was trying to go for the no medicine route, but it hurt a lot, so I decided that pain bad, if it is avoidable and went for the drugs. Got the epidural, and was then in the bed. Labored for awhile longer and around 11pm the midwife checked and I was fully dilated.

During this time we had noticed that the baby’s heart rate was dropping occasionally so I was put on an oxygen mask to help with it. We rested for an hour after finding me at 10cm to see if the baby would drop on his own anymore. He didn’t so around midnight we started pushing. The heart rate problems continued and the midwife was worried the cord might be wrapped around him. So she got the OB/GYN over after about an hour of pushing (where he moved down from +1 to -1 position). He looked, had me push a bit more, and noted that the baby wasn’t moving down any more and the heart rate problem was worrying.

So we went for the emergency C-section. Got into the OR and the epidural medicine was not numbing me enough so they had to put me fully under general anesthesia. Which meant my husband was not allowed in the OR. No one expect me knew what was going on so they were all worried, since I was in the OR and well unconscious. At 2:35am on April 5th Desmond Kiran made his appearance into the world. His APGAR scores were an 8 and a 9. He was 7 pounds 14 ounces and 20 and 3/4th inches. DH got to hold him and stay with him as they took him to the nursery. I woke up around 3:15am from the general.

Because the nurse I had in labor and delivery sucked (just the last one the rest were great). It was 4 hours before I got to see him. She also drove my bed straight into the nurses station, which is not really fun when you just had a C-section.

Spent the next few days in the hospital recovering. And I have to say my husband rocks. He did all the diaper changes while we were in the hospital, and was great with taking care of both me and the baby. We got out of the hospital yesterday afternoon, and have been home and recovering well here. The baby is great and his jaundice went down so we never had to worry about the lights.

Anyways home safe and sound with the baby, though my birth experience did not go at all as planned, we are both safe and sound and doing well. And I have to say my doulas rocked and were great to have there for the laboring part even though they couldn’t attend the c-section. It was great to have them there for support along with DH, my mom and my MIL.

Desmond Kiran Singhal

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Born April 5th at 2:30am. 7 pounds 14 ounces, 20 3/4 inches tall.

Born via emergency C-section, because he had his cord wrapped around his arm which was causing his heart beat to fluctuate. Went in Tuesday April 3rd at 6pm to start the induction, Started the pitocin (spelling) drip on Wednesday April 4th at 8:30am. Was fully dilated by 11pm April 4th and pushing by Midnight. Decided to go C-section after an hour and a half of pushing based on the heartbeat and suspected cord problem of some sort, and the OB/GYNs opinion.

He was born with APGARs of 8 and then 9, all is well, more info and pictures coming soon. Just got home from the hospital today.

Eviction Notice Given!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

So the blob will be evicted on April 4th if he does not decide to come before then. Went to my midwife appointment today, and she checked things, still having contractions, a bit more ready, but not much. However, looking at my chart she saw they didn’t want me to go to term with the blob because he is so big. Which makes me quite happy.

So she went to check to see when we could schedule an induction. Monday and Tuesday were both full in Labor and Delivery, but Wednesday they had room. So Wednesday April 4th the blob will be appearing, if he doesn’t decide to come before then. I check in Tuesday night, and they start the induction drugs on Wednesday morning, and hopefully he arrives in short order after that.

It is so nice knowing we have a day when he will definitely be here by. I don’t mind if he comes before then, but knowing he will be here by that day is just nice.

8 Days of Contractions Suck!

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

So last Friday I noticed I was having contractions every 3 to 5 minutes for a minute. Okay general knowledge says to call when that happens. So I did and got to go to Labor and Delivery, where it was determined, yes you are contracting, no nothing else is happening, bye. Sunday they were a bit worse and I could actually feel them and the baby was moving less then normal, so back in we went. Found I had an UTI, got 2 liters of fluid and antibiotics and sent home 8 hours later, yay or something.

Still contracting mind you. They didn’t stop or get much worse, so Wednesday went to my Midwife appointment, still contracting, nothing else had changed so got a make your appointment for next week, bye. By this point in time contractions are getting really annoying, since it has been 6ish days without them stopping. Thursday shocking I was still contracting, and today yep, still contracting. Nothing really changing, but still contracting.

And there is nothing I can do about it. I am just hoping the blob decides he is ready to show up soon (today would be nice) so the dang contractions will stop.

Well it is one BIG Blob!

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Had a measurement ultrasound today. Didn’t get any pictures, should have asked, oh well. Anyways he is definitely a boy, no question at all about that. Oh and he is a big boy. At 36 and a half weeks he weighs 7 and a half pounds. Eek! and the general growth of babies the last month or so is half a pound every week, which means he could be over 9 pounds when he is born. That is really kind of scaring me. I’ll get to have another ultrasound in about 2 weeks, so we can check his size again, since if he is still really big at 39 weeks, I’ll probably end having to induce, which I really would prefer not to do.

Then again to be fair I would prefer to go to sleep and wake in the morning with a newborn next to me, rather then go through any labor. I still have this anti-drug thing going on, and I have a feeling from what I’ve heard if they do induce I am going to want an epidural, which isn’t a happy idea, but I’ll deal if it happens.

In other news he has a ton of hair can’t tell if it is thick or thin, but there is a lot of it, which is kind of an odd thing you can see on an ultrasound. Anyways it appears I have a huge blob arriving soon with a lot of hair. Eek!

Bags packed for the hospital

Monday, March 12th, 2007

So I meant to do this, this past weekend, but didn’t end up doing so. Anyways my bags are now packed for the hospital, so I guess that means I am ready whenever the blob decides to appear, at least bags packed wise.

They are missing a few things, I need to make a mix cd or 3 of my various iTunes music for relaxation during labor (or some such thing). I also need to wash one more outfit for the blob to possibly come home in (okay so I over packed for him at the hospital, but baby clothes are soooo cute). I also need to charge the battery in my camera and the big camera so they won’t run out of batteries once the blob arrives. No I am not taking pictures of his birth, ick eww. I am taking newborn pictures though since he’ll be out then and cute (all babies are cute it is the law).

I think I’m mostly ready though, and packing the bag makes it even more real, since that means I am expecting him to arrive soon. Still holding out for him to arrive on his due date though since I just think it would be cool if he arrived on Easter since I was born on Easter.
