Finger painting

We don’t finger paint often here, because it is 5+ minutes of set up, for 5 to 15 minutes of finger painting, depending on the child and then 30 minutes of bath time. It takes less time to just skip the finger painting and go straight to the bath.

At the playground

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

So we went to the playground yesterday. No big shock there, we have been going a lot since it is perfect playground weather right now. Since Dan was home though I took the big camera and got some pictures of Sully, since I could let him down, and someone could still keep an eye on the two bigger ones. Here are some pictures of Eloise and Desmond playing and of Sully exploring the playground.

Our Calendar

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

So Desmond had been trying to figure out what we do each day, and I figured a visual reminder would be useful. Thus came about my plan to make a weekly calendar. I used a variety of things to make it, first I used some color paper I had lying about, I also used various scrapbooking alphabet stickers I had, to make the words and labels needed. I used the computer to print out small activity cards for what we do on various days. I bought 2 big metal boards from IKEA to put up the calendar on. I also bought the bar and 3 small cups to put the various activity cards and date cards in. I also had a laminator to laminate the various pages and activity cards of the calender. I bought some magnetic tape from Amazon, and I had some velcro stick dots lying around that I used as well.

Here is the calendar coming together. First is Desmond hammering in a screw mount for a screw to hold up the metal boards.

Here is Desmond showing off the metal boards now they are up:

Here is Desmond showing off the finished board:

Here is the calendar, sorry about the glare:

Desmond and Eloise have enjoyed putting up the various activity even if they aren’t actually happening on that day. We’ll see how it goes now that it is up and all ready.

Sully’s 6 month stats

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Sully had his 6 month appointment today it went great. He is doing great, we think the nurse measured him wrong so he is actually longer then his official stats, probably more like 27 inches, but it wasn’t a big enough issue to worry about. He is in the 80th percentile for weight and 50th for height this appointment. He also is in the 97th for head, he has a big head I guess. He is above target developmentally and the doctor has no worries about him. He is right between Eloise (15 pounds 4 ounces) and Desmond (19 pounds 13 ounces) weight at 6 months and he is the same height as Desmond (27 inches) was.

Here are his stats:
At birth he was 9 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches
At one month he was 11 pounds 3 ounces and 23 inches
At 2 months he was 13 pounds and 24 inches
At 4 months he was 15 pounds 2 ounces
At 5 months he was 16 pounds 3 ounces and 26 1/2 inches
At 6 months he was 17 pounds 8.5 ounces and 26 1/2 inches

In other exciting news Eloise is now up to 22 pounds and 8 ounces! She has gained almost 2 pounds since March and weighs almost the same as Desmond did at 9 months *grin*. She might actually make it to 24 pounds by 3.

Caterpillars

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

So when leaving the playground today we saw a caterpillar. Honestly it was kind of gross looking especially its face. The two bigger small ones though liked it. I had to tell them they could look but not touch, since I remembered caterpillars’ fuzz can be a minor contact poison/irritant. They both liked looking at it and watching it move, so it was a nice for them to see a real very hungry caterpillar that will turn into a beautiful butterfly when it is a big fat caterpillar and builds a cocoon. Here are the small ones watching the caterpillar.

Eating applesauce

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

So we went to the grocery store on Sunday. There is actually nothing new or overly interesting about this fact, we need to eat, so we go to the grocery store about once a week normally on the weekend. Anyways while we were there I picked up a jar of natural applesauce (not baby applesauce, just the general motts natural applesauce) for Sully. We do baby led weaning, which means he tends to feed himself most of the time, but I thought he might like applesauce so we got it for him.

Sunday after the grocery store Sully feel asleep and slept through the first part of dinner, which wasn’t an issue, when he woke up though he wanted to participate too, since we were having baked potato soup, I decided that applesauce would be a better choice for him. With the reflux and Eloise’s dairy problems I don’t really feel that soup with tons of milk, cheese and sour cream is a great food this early. So I got him a small bowl of applesauce and put him in his high chair. By the way I love his high chair, we got it for Eloise when she was a baby, it is just a basic one from IKEA, it is nice, sturdy and cheap. We’ll get him a Stokke Tripp Trapp for his first birthday, but for now the basic IKEA high chair works great.

Dan helped feed him some applesauce, Sully quite enjoyed it. He would steal the spoon from Dan after it was in his mouth and play with it until it was empty and needed a refill of more applesauce. So here is Sully enjoying his applesauce.
