Getting Ready for India

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

So we leave for India in almost exactly 7 weeks.  So we are slowly getting ready for the trip.  We’ve bought Desmond new cloth diapers for the trip, but we still need to order him a couple of new covers, I’m think 6 or so.    We just got Dan a new carrier to use, since he doesn’t like mine, and since I will be almost 20 weeks pregnant when we go, he will likely be carrying Desmond a lot more then me.

I bought a memory card for my camera, but it wasn’t the right type, so I returned it, I want to pick up another one, so I won’t have to worry about not having enough space to take tons of pictures, since we all know I love taking tons of pictures.  We also need to get a few other items, small and large, and book K-line at the kennel.

We are trying to sort of slowly gather everything we need, so there won’t be a huge rush the weekend before we leave, okay let’s be honest there is no way to avoid that huge, “We still need xyz” and to pack frenzy before we leave, but we are trying to make it so that there are only a few items on the list rather then a ton of things.

Other then getting stuff ready though, we aren’t really doing much for India, Dan and I did take a Hindi class earlier this year, but it was kind of pointless and didn’t do what we were hoping it would do.  We do plan to visit the Taj while we are over there, but other then that, we don’t have any firm plans on touristy things, since honestly they will be a bit tough with Desmond anyways.  Our tickets are booked though so we are ready on that end, we do still need to fill out the VISA forms I’ll have to ask my father in law about them this weekend, I can’t remember how early we got them last time.

We are slowly but steadily getting ready for Desmond’s first big trip to India, anyone want to take my place on the plane for 15 hours with him?

Wheaton Regional Park

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

So the Thursday before we went to Atlanta, Desmond and I spent the day at my in-laws while Dan was at work.  I was told that Dad (my father in law) wanted to take us to Wheaton Regional, to which I finally had to ask Dan, Wheaton Regional what?  Turns out it is a nice park about 2 miles up the road from my in-law’s house.  So Desmond, my Father in Law and I went to the park.  They had both a carousel and a train that the kids could ride on.  So my father in law bought tickets, and we took Desmond on both of them.  He had a ton of fun, he loves the carousel and enjoyed the train ride, we might have taken him on the carousel a second time, but it started raining so we headed out for lunch.  Anyways we had a great time and here are a couple of pictures I took of Desmond enjoying himself.

Weeee!

Lets go round and round and round

Actually here is a Desmond Picture now

Okay so the history behind this pictures is on one of the message boards I frequent we do little contests, and one of them was guess the baby. So to make sure no one guessed Desmond I put him in a dress, I also put diapers in the corner of the pictures and put him in his crib, which he never uses, just to confuse even more. Anyways here are three pictures of Desmond pretending not to be himself, okay the third one he is being himself, I didn’t use that one in the guess the baby name. The first one was the main picture and the second one was the clue.

I will try to post some pictures of the short one tomorrow or Friday though, for everyone’s enjoyment.

New Blog Name

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Since my blog seems to have nothing to do with math anymore I’ve been thinking about changing it’s name for awhile. See the post here from April. Anyways I finally decided the name really needed to change so Dan and I were throwing around names tonight. We thought about Crunchy Kids and debated a couple of others as well. I ended up throwing out A Mile from Mainstream. We both stopped and went that’s it. So Math Freak is now A Mile from Mainstream. I didn’t want anything too child centered since even though most of the blog is about Desmond, and his future sibling, it is still my blog. I think this new name works well, let me know what you think.

Don’t hit *slap*

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

So we went out to IHOPs for lunch today since we had some shopping to do. While we were there a couple with their daughter who looked a couple of months younger then Desmond was seated next to us. So figure a little girl around 13 months old. Dan and I both sitting there dealing with Desmond when we heard the little girl’s mother say, “Don’t hit” and then we heard the mother hit the little girl and continue with, “See it hurts.” She did it about 3 times. Neither of us said anything because we really didn’t want to deal with it and Desmond was almost done eating.

When we got back into the car though we both looked at each other and asked, “Did you hear that woman and her don’t hit, slap thing?” Neither of us could understand how she possible thought hitting her child after her child had hit her was teaching the child not to hit. Let alone the fact that at 13 months distraction is about the only thing that works anyways. We were just boggling at the mind that thought hitting the child back, was the correct way to teach the child not to hit. It seemed more like reinforcement to both of us.

I just don’t get people some times.

Baby Update

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well I’m 10 weeks now, actually about half way through the 10th week. All in all, I have no real symptoms, a few food aversion, and some exhaustion, but I tend to blame most of the exhaustion on trying to keep up with Desmond. What little morning sickness I have had has long since passed, not that I had much, I think I had more with Desmond, and that is saying a lot, since I had one true episode with him.

I seriously would doubt I was pregnant if I hadn’t seen the baby’s heart beating and such. It has been fairly stress free so far which is really nice. My next appointment isn’t till September 8th. It will be nice to go in and be checked out and hear the heartbeat.

No real complaints at this point though, the pregnancy is going fairly well and it is kind of weird to think I’m almost through the first trimester already, hopefully I will get some energy back when I hit second trimester. Just keeping everyone updated, no real news on the baby front though. I’m sure there’ll be some more news come October and the 20 weeks ultrasound.

At the playground

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

We also took him to the playground while we were at the lake house and he had a great time with Nonnie (I took pictures, Nonnie went down the slide with him and without). When he goes down slides on his own he tends to come down feet first on his tummy.

On the Boat

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

We went out on the boat and Desmond had fun, he got to drive the boat, since he is old now. Doesn’t everyone let their 16 month old drive a boat? My Dad helped him while he was steering.
