The positives of Tandem nursing

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

So Desmond is still nursing, he is turning 2 soon and shows no sign of weaning anytime soon, which I am fine with.

Actually it is really really nice right now that he is nursing. I have major oversupply when my milk first comes in and Eloise can’t drink all of it, so rather then pumping tons of milk that I end up throwing away 6 months later because we never use it, I can use Desmond to help reduce the engorgement and pain of early milk production. It is really really nice.

The only problems being that he wants to nurse all the time at the moment, and he doesn’t get to, since Eloise gets to nurse first, and far more often then he does, and that he hates me setting a time limit on him nursing. Which being a mean Mommy I do, normally of about 10 minutes. He does not like being delatched at that point in time, though he is getting a bit better about it, I’m hoping he improves as the days go by, since he is getting milk again instead of nothing, like he was getting the last month of pregnancy. I think part of his problem is the whole sharing of the milk thing as well. Hopefully that improves as he sees I am not stopping him from nursing either, just limiting him a bit, and honesty it is far less limited then it was before Eloise was born, when he only got to nurse at nap time.

Anyways, since I seem to have gotten off on a tangent, tandem nursing is working really well for us at least 5 days in, and it is wonderful for helping the painfulness of the first week nursing after your milk comes in.

Exploring the co-sleeper

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Desmond really loves the co-sleeper her seems to think it is some new kind of climb toy just for him. His most recent trick is to climb into it, which we are trying to stop, but he also loves to climb in and explore the bottom of it. So here he is playing in the bottom of the co-sleeper.

In the bouncy chair

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Desmond has been discovering the wonders of all the items we brought out for Eloise that had been put away since he was little. So he has enjoyed exploring them all. Here he is playing with the bouncy chair, he adored this chair when he was little, apparently he still does.

Desmond and Eloise!

So on Tuesday Desmond didn’t really nap, so he passed out on the floor around 6:30pm. Dan took the time to get some pictures of Desmond and Eloise together since neither was going anywhere.

In the Swing

Monday, March 9th, 2009

So we set up the living room for bean yesterday. We put the co-sleeper in one area and the swing in another area. Which meant today when Desmond came down he had all sorts of new/old things to play with. Anyways I was checking something on the computer and turned to see…

Someone apparently really likes the swing, he’s been up and down swinging on it all morning. The weight limit is 25 pounds, and he is right around 28, so I haven’t worried too much about it yet, since it has kept him happy and quiet, now as long as he doesn’t try to climb in once bean is here and in the swing!

Taco Night!

Monday, March 9th, 2009

So when Dan does Tacos Desmond tends to steal his cheese and sometimes eat his taco too. Anyways we did Tacos for dinner Saturday night I believe. Desmond moved to his favorite spot, sitting on the table looking at Dan and stole one of his Tacos to eat, since obviously Desmond’s Tacos weren’t as good as Daddy’s.

Desmond loves the swings and other then his tumble today he has never had a problem with the big kid swings rather then the baby swings. He has great balance, he’s been using them since he was 16ish months old.

Going to the Playground

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

So today is a gorgeous day, so we decided to take Desmond to the playground, along apparently with everyone else in town. There were over 40 kids there. We walked over, Desmond brought his caterpillar with him, since caterpillar needed a walk too. He wasn’t willing to climb the play structures without caterpillar, but he was willing to swing, so we swung a bunch. At one point in time, he did tumble in a somersault off the swing, because his balance was off and Dan pushed him a little too high. He was fine though and after getting the dirt off him he wanted right back on. We let him swing till it was obvious he was ready for a nap and then we came home. He had fun and we’ll probably take him back out later and maybe tomorrow too.

Anyways here are the pictures of him walking to the playground and on the play structure reaching for his caterpillar, the swing pictures will be in another post.
