Walking the caterpillar

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

For Desmond’s birthday we bought him a wooden caterpillar. He loves this toy and has since he got it, in fact we gave it to him before his birthday because he saw it and fell in love with it and wanted to play with it now. Anyways at first he wasn’t that great pulling it and liked to have someone else walk the caterpillar for him and he’d follow along after it. Now though he loves to take Mr. Caterpillar with him when he goes out, Mr. Caterpillar loves going on walks and to the playground and upstairs and downstairs, he’s going to India in October, which we’re hoping he enjoys as well (and doesn’t get lost).

Anyways yesterday I went out on the evening walk with Desmond, K-line, Dan and Mr. Caterpillar and since I haven’t taken many pictures of Desmond in awhile, I took a bunch of pictures. That being said, they were taken with the small camera so they aren’t as good as pictures taken with the big camera, but still enjoy! Oh and there are very few of his face, he kept moving so I never got any good head on shots.

Why is he still awake?

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Seriously it is 10pm, he is normally out by 8:30 at the latest, he is still wide awake and wandering around downstairs, he isn’t even lying down quietly and watching Finding Nemo, nope he is wandering around the living room happily playing.  Go to bed child!

Big Big Foot!

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

So we have been pretty sure that Desmond’s foot has grown in the past few weeks, but we were trying to hold out a bit longer before getting him new shoes, so he won’t outgrow them before INdia (he likes to outgrow his shoes in about a month).   Today we put on his sneakers and decided we couldn’t really wait the extra 4 weeks he needed new shoes.   So off to Stride Rite we went.   He got measured and is now a size 7 extra wide.  We decided to try him in size 71/2 in an attempt to get his shoes to last through India (I can dream right?).  he 7 1/2s fit him quite well, so he is now wearing size 7 1/2shoes.

Did you know that the shoes move from baby toddlers to big kids shoes right around size 7!  Yep they do, so the short one is basically now wearing big kid shoes rather then toddler shoes, you know the ones where you have a choice to get real shoe laces to tie (I think we’ll wait a bit on those).

We also bought him socks while we were at the store because he only has 3 pairs that fit his big feet at this point.   So now he has new shoes, I’m just hoping he doesn’t outgrow them before October 20th.

3 hour glucose test, joy!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Whine, with Desmond I had GD (gestational diabetes for those not in the know), well I sort of had it, I failed the three hour test by 1, seriously I needed under a 120 to pass three of the four tests, and I had a 120, so I failed the whole thing.  It was a pain and annoying, but I was able to keep it controlled with diet, mainly because I’m still not convinced I had it, but anyways.

So since I had it last time, they gave me the stuff so I could do the 1 hour test before my second appointment this time.  So yesterday my Mother in Law came over and I went to take the test, and I failed, whine.  I needed under a 130 I had a 136.  Which means I have to take the 3 hour test again.  Blegh.  I am so not happy about that.

Next Monday is my next appointment and I’ll pick up the information then, and probably take the test by the end of the month.  I really hope I pass, because I so don’t want to have to take a blood sugar moniter with me to India, because well it just won’t be fun.   I was really hoping that it would come in under and I would be fine this time, I still could be, but dang I hate the glucose drink and I don’t wanna take the three hour test, whine.

Getting Ready for India

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

So we leave for India in almost exactly 7 weeks.  So we are slowly getting ready for the trip.  We’ve bought Desmond new cloth diapers for the trip, but we still need to order him a couple of new covers, I’m think 6 or so.    We just got Dan a new carrier to use, since he doesn’t like mine, and since I will be almost 20 weeks pregnant when we go, he will likely be carrying Desmond a lot more then me.

I bought a memory card for my camera, but it wasn’t the right type, so I returned it, I want to pick up another one, so I won’t have to worry about not having enough space to take tons of pictures, since we all know I love taking tons of pictures.  We also need to get a few other items, small and large, and book K-line at the kennel.

We are trying to sort of slowly gather everything we need, so there won’t be a huge rush the weekend before we leave, okay let’s be honest there is no way to avoid that huge, “We still need xyz” and to pack frenzy before we leave, but we are trying to make it so that there are only a few items on the list rather then a ton of things.

Other then getting stuff ready though, we aren’t really doing much for India, Dan and I did take a Hindi class earlier this year, but it was kind of pointless and didn’t do what we were hoping it would do.  We do plan to visit the Taj while we are over there, but other then that, we don’t have any firm plans on touristy things, since honestly they will be a bit tough with Desmond anyways.  Our tickets are booked though so we are ready on that end, we do still need to fill out the VISA forms I’ll have to ask my father in law about them this weekend, I can’t remember how early we got them last time.

We are slowly but steadily getting ready for Desmond’s first big trip to India, anyone want to take my place on the plane for 15 hours with him?

Wheaton Regional Park

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

So the Thursday before we went to Atlanta, Desmond and I spent the day at my in-laws while Dan was at work.  I was told that Dad (my father in law) wanted to take us to Wheaton Regional, to which I finally had to ask Dan, Wheaton Regional what?  Turns out it is a nice park about 2 miles up the road from my in-law’s house.  So Desmond, my Father in Law and I went to the park.  They had both a carousel and a train that the kids could ride on.  So my father in law bought tickets, and we took Desmond on both of them.  He had a ton of fun, he loves the carousel and enjoyed the train ride, we might have taken him on the carousel a second time, but it started raining so we headed out for lunch.  Anyways we had a great time and here are a couple of pictures I took of Desmond enjoying himself.

Weeee!

Lets go round and round and round

Actually here is a Desmond Picture now

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Okay so the history behind this pictures is on one of the message boards I frequent we do little contests, and one of them was guess the baby. So to make sure no one guessed Desmond I put him in a dress, I also put diapers in the corner of the pictures and put him in his crib, which he never uses, just to confuse even more. Anyways here are three pictures of Desmond pretending not to be himself, okay the third one he is being himself, I didn’t use that one in the guess the baby name. The first one was the main picture and the second one was the clue.

Baby Update

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well I’m 10 weeks now, actually about half way through the 10th week. All in all, I have no real symptoms, a few food aversion, and some exhaustion, but I tend to blame most of the exhaustion on trying to keep up with Desmond. What little morning sickness I have had has long since passed, not that I had much, I think I had more with Desmond, and that is saying a lot, since I had one true episode with him.

I seriously would doubt I was pregnant if I hadn’t seen the baby’s heart beating and such. It has been fairly stress free so far which is really nice. My next appointment isn’t till September 8th. It will be nice to go in and be checked out and hear the heartbeat.

No real complaints at this point though, the pregnancy is going fairly well and it is kind of weird to think I’m almost through the first trimester already, hopefully I will get some energy back when I hit second trimester. Just keeping everyone updated, no real news on the baby front though. I’m sure there’ll be some more news come October and the 20 weeks ultrasound.

At the playground

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

We also took him to the playground while we were at the lake house and he had a great time with Nonnie (I took pictures, Nonnie went down the slide with him and without). When he goes down slides on his own he tends to come down feet first on his tummy.

On the Boat

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

We went out on the boat and Desmond had fun, he got to drive the boat, since he is old now. Doesn’t everyone let their 16 month old drive a boat? My Dad helped him while he was steering.
