Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Avast ye scury mates, it be talk like a pirate day. To celebrate this worthy occasion, I shall drink the rum this evening, in between packing for our Disney trip tomorrow.

Okay so I’m a bloddy landlubber and can’t keep up the pirate talk long. Happy talk like a pirate day all!

Time for an update?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

So it’s been a few weeks again so I should probably update. Let’s see, we got an Aquarium membership and went 2 Sundays ago. It was nice and Desmond liked looking at the fishies. We didn’t stay for the Dolphin show because he was getting fussy so instead we spent an hour trying to get out of Baltimore, I hate the inner harbor and Baltimore it is hard to find your way out once you are in.

Desmond has his 4 month doctor’s appointment tomorrow, so we’ll see how much he’s grown then. I’m guessing 26 inches and 18ish pounds. He’ll be getting one shot and we’ll have to make appointments for the second shots of the ones he has gotten so far. We’re sticking with our one shot a month plan for the moment I think.

Desmond is teething we’re pretty sure, he doesn’t like to go to bed now either, he’s his Mommy’s baby isn’t he? He will go down and then be back up about an hour later, before going down an hour later. On the plus side, once he is finally out he’s out for the night and he sleeps till around 10am which I appreciate.

Dan’s company lost their recompete, so we had a couple of days of worry over here while he was figuring what to do. The company that won it offered him a job (basically his current job) with a nice 10ish% raise, so he took it. His current company wasn’t on the ball with getting people interviews internally and such and with Desmond he didn’t want to push his luck in finding something. He also figured he’s been with his current company for 9 months so he doesn’t have much company loyalty yet. Our health insurance is changing for a third time this year now, joy. Fortunately the doctors we care about are all on the new plan as well, so we should be set. Copays are a bit less as are prescription costs, the monthly cost of the plan is a bit more then currently but we still come out ahead since his new company gives him a 75$ a month travel budget which makes up for the health insurance increase. Overall we think the benefits are a bit better at the new company. He won’t be able to work from home right away, but we’re hopefully he can work it out so he can again in a few months. We also get to go to Disney still so I’m happy.

Desmond and I joined Gymboree, we had fun at our first class so we decided to go ahead and sign up, it is a way for us to get out of the house at least once a week which will be nice. We’ll see how it goes, he seems so much older then the other babies in the 0 to 6 month class, even if he is the second youngest, the youngest is 4 days younger then him.

Other then that not much else going on. We did celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary on the 5th of August. Well actually we celebrated on the 4th, my inlaws came up and baby sat Des while Dan and I went out to dinner, we had fun, it was kind of weird being out without the baby though. It is only the third time we’ve done something without him since he was born.

It has been a busy few weeks, but things will probably settle down by January or so, hopefully at least.

Recent Stuff

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Let’s see, been about 3 weeks since I last posted maybe? Updates then, the wedding in New York was nice. Desmond was invited to the dinner the night before and we all had fun, he got passed around a lot. We headed out a little early because he was getting fussy, probably from the day of traveling and such. He did great on the train up to NYC.

The next day we went to FAO with my sister and brother and brother’s girlfriend. It was fun, we got Desmond a hippo, so it can go berserk. The wedding was nice, my brother’s girlfriend babysat Desmond while the rest of us went to the wedding. My brother left really early because he was sick (so of course he went to our hotel room and hung out with Desmond and his girlfriend). We left after dinner because honestly we knew the groom, his family and my family, so it wasn’t all that interesting. We headed back to the hotel room and everything had gone well with baby boy. Oh yeah there was the whole leaving him with someone other then one of us for 4+ hour thing too that had us leaving early.

Memorial day we had brunch, which was nice, then Desmond and I left with my parents and one of my sister’s to head to Atlanta. Dan caught a train home. Desmond had his first plane ride in first class. I had to let him know that it was unlikely to ever happen again, so enjoy it now. He slept through the whole flight which worked well.

We then spent the week with my parents, we were going to go to the lake house, but my Grandfather ended up in the hospital, so we stayed in the city. It was nice though, and my Grandfather is fine. The flight back was fairly easy. Getting through the airport alone with Desmond was a bit “fun”, but it was doable. On the plane we ended up with the row to ourselves, since the people in the other two seats moved to the exit row, because the plane was empty. So he slept on their seats for the whole ride. Worked out wonderfully.

Not much happened last week, hung out at home mainly. We did get a Costco membership, but that is about the most exciting thing. Baby got a few more presents from people as well and a set of diapers we had ordered for him came in, bamboo diapers are so soft and nice, I’m in love. Other then that pretty quiet week.

My inlaws came up and visited on Saturday, which was nice. We gave them a nice picture of Desmond that we had done when my Mom was up, and then took some pictures of us with Desmond to send to India. Other then that not much went on this weekend other then general errands and such.

Think that is about it. Not much going on around here that don’t relate to the baby. My Mom is up this weekend and we’re heading down to Richmond so she can see her parents and Desmond can meet my Grandfather on that side. Plus he’ll get to meet most of the other relatives he hasn’t yet. Other then that we’re getting the house ready for Dan’s Bday party.

Updates

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Okay so it has been awhile since I posted last. Oops or something. We went to the Trans Siberian Orchestra, it wasn’t exactly what either of us were expecting but it interesting. We decided we prefer their cds to the concert though.

The new floor is finished. It took a couple days longer then expected, but it looks really nice, maybe I’ll post pictures eventually. The wood looks great as does the tile in the bathrooms. Really glad it is done now. We decided we really like the living room mostly empty now we just need to figure out how to keep it this way.

Staying at my parents was fine. Went to the High Museum and saw the Louvre exhibit which was nice. Went shopping with my Mom got a few things for the baby. Brought home the 6823094 outfits she had bought for him. Was a nice week down there, probably won’t see my Dad till April and the baby is born now, should see my Mom sometime next month for the baby shower and such.

Haven’t heard anything about the baby furniture hopefully we will hear something soon though it was 14 weeks from when we ordered it in December so maybe sometime next month before we hear anything.

Haven’t done a ton this past week just relaxing mainly. Need to work on the baby’s room some and then the rest of the house now that the floor is done.

Need to go in and take my Gestational Diabetes test still, was planning to go in today, but it snowed last night and I am not really that comfortable driving in the snow so it maybe tomorrow, which is a bit later then I planned to do it.

Other then that we got about an inch and a half of snow yesterday it was nice to finally have snow this season. Who knows if we’ll get anymore.

Those are all the basics as far as I can tell.

Random Updates

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Well I meant to post last week, but you know what they say about intentions, actually what do they say about intentions? Anyways, Finished our Xmas and Hanukkah shopping fairly easily. I had Dan’s all done before the end of Hanukkah, we had to get a few more gifts on the Friday before Christmas but stores weren’t too bad. Which was nice, everyone seemed to enjoy their gifts. I am a bit disappointed that one of the gifts I got doesn’t work at the moment, but should eventually so it will be good then.

For the first weekend of Hanukkah we ended up getting our big presents, which weren’t actually planned. We got a Xbox360 and a new HD-TV flat panel. They are both nice, and we’ve been getting a lot of use out of them so it seems like a good purchase over all.

Other then presents and such not much has been going on the past few weeks, we’ve replaced the sink cabinets in three of the four bathrooms, we’re not planning on changing the last one at this point in time. We still need to hook up one sink, because Dan isn’t sure which pieces he needs to do it, but the other two seem to be working decently. We need to clean out the first floor this weekend since they are coming to replace the floors on the 8th so everything must be removed that we can.

Otherwise nothing much else going on house wise.

Weekend and such

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Let’s see this weekend was fairly calm over all. We didn’t do anything with the whole cleaning theme, oh well. What we did was erm Friday something? I honestly can’t remember Friday maybe dinner out somewhere and such but I won’t promise that since I really can’t remember.

Saturday we ran various errand, we went to the baby store where we bought our furniture and ordered the bed conversion kit, in case we want to change the crib to a real bed some day. They were also having a cord blood seminar that we went too. We assumed it would be a general discussion about cord blood etc, it wasn’t it was put on by one of the cord blood banks so basically it was a 30 minute bank your cord blood with us thing. If we hadn’t been planning on banking the cord blood it definitely won’t have convinced us. So it was mostly worthless. We had lunch after that, and did other stuff. Dan looked at the main bathroom upstairs and we visited Home Depot to buy a few things he would need to tear out the cabinets.

Sunday was tearing things up day. I think we got to visit Home Depot 4 or 5 times, well I did I think Dan got to visit 6 or 7 times, since in the evening I made him go alone because I didn’t want to go again. He tore out the cabinet in the main bathroom and installed the new one, it looks good, though all the plumbing insides aren’t together yet, he also did the master bedroom bathroom which looks good too though again is missing some innards. So hopefully this week we’ll finish up on them and have both upstairs sinks working again.

So it was a fairly busy and productive weekend. Next weekend we’re doing the sink in the first floor bathroom. Then painting and such and doing medicine cabinets and such so everything is in place before they come to do the flooring.

Holidays and Presents

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Okay so I have a few posts for today, I was planning on putting some of these up earlier but never got around to it so you get a bunch of posts at once. Enjoy.

Anyways, Dan and I have to come up with a couple of small presents for each other for Christmas Day. Normally this isn’t a huge deal, but we are trying to declutter this year, which means that there really isn’t a lot either of us wants. I found a couple of things for me that I have ordered, but I was looking for a pewter dragon or two for Dan and I can’t find any good one this year, which kind of sucks. I found a couple of okay ones, but we are trying not to settle for okay gifts this year. It won’t be a big problem, but we spend Christmas Day at my in-laws since we spend Thanksgiving with my parents, and we always exchange gifts in the morning so we need to have 4 or so gifts for each other.

I did finally come up with one thing for Dan I got tickets for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on the 30th of December, so that is one of his presents, I’ll probably wrap one of the James Bond collections as well, which means I just need to come up with two more things for him, I am just clueless about what to get him since there really isn’t anything small that he really wants this year.

Kheldon can be funny sometimes!

Monday, November 6th, 2006

We were talking in IRC and the following exchange took place:

Kheldon: Tabbeh
Kheldon: Feed me
* tabrizia passes kheldon her yogurt
tabrizia: there you go
tabrizia: it is peach
tabrizia: and all natural so no yucky extra hormones or such
Kheldon: …
Kheldon: I want real food
tabrizia: yogurt is real food
tabrizia: but you can have a toasted cheese sandwich if you want
tabrizia: or how about a politician
tabrizia: they are coming door to door now that the election is tomorrow so I am sure I can catch one and cook them for you
Kheldon: sorry, can’t eat pork
Kheldon: :p
tabrizia: lol

Elections coming up

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

So the midterm elections are coming up on Tuesday. Which is great, I’ll go out and vote. However, the thing that is annoying me about them is the random people calling trying to get me to vote for their candidate. Let me tell you I don’t listen to the phone messages and even if I do they normally make me want to vote for your competitor. So if the politicians knew what they were doing they won’t be calling my house. Anyways we got a call today, which I let go to voice mail, since that normally stops over half the random calls. Was for someone or another, since I was in the kitchen getting breakfast I listened to the pitch, and went “Wow, nice to know now I am definitely voting for your opponent since I totally don’t agree with your take on this issue.” So I guess the people calling have done their duty they have me going out to vote, though their candidate is the last person I would vote for now. Go politics!

Updates on stuff

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

So I haven’t posted much recently. Mainly because there hasn’t been a ton going on. I mean we’ve had various things happening, but nothing extremely exciting or such.

Dan started his new job on October 2nd and seems to be enjoying it. The few downsides to it, being he can’t work from home yet, probably not till it is perm rather then temp, so he missed my last midwife appointment, which wasn’t huge but still. Other problem being since he is temp right now he doesn’t get paid when he has federal holidays off which means he has to work his 40 hours on the other 4 days, which kinds of sucks and means we aren’t going down to my parents for Thanksgiving since he has to work the Friday after Thanksgiving. Oh well, will be the second time in the past 11 years we haven’t had Thanksgiving with my parents, and the other time was back when I was in Israel. No clue what we’re going to do instead, probably either go to his parents or down to my Aunt Mary’s.

Babywise everything is going well, not much different, I have my next doctor’s appointment on Friday, I should get to hear the heartbeat again which will be nice. Everything seems to be going well though I should probably be eating more dairy for calcium still. I’ll update this weekend or next week about the appointment. Should have the big Ultrasound sometime in November, I’m hoping for the 10th since Dan will be home for Veteran’s Day then anyways and it will make it easier for him to come.

Housewise, Dan has to put the border up in the baby’s room still, but other then that it is finished being painted. We need to buy the stuff to do the closet for all three upstairs rooms, maybe this weekend or next weekend. Dan’s also painted K’s room and done most of the trim work as well, we went with a purpleish/blue color with yellow trim in there it looks nice. The contractor came out yesterday so he can give us an estimate on some of the other housework that needs to be done. We are redoing two of the bathrooms, the first floor half bath and the upstairs main bath. Dan was recaulking the upstairs bath and found that the tile was loose so we have to have them retile it, and since they will be here we decided to see how much it would cost for them to retile the floors as well and put in the new fixtures and cabnets. Hopefully we’ll hear how much the damage will be next week. We still need to find a landscaper as well since Claire’s brother apparently only works in Towson area. We’ll get to that eventually I’m sure.

Other then that we’ve had a couple of semi busy weekends, last weekend we had a Halloween party to go to on Saturday which was fun. The week before that one of Dan’s friend’s from his old job was having a small get together for his birthday so we went to that. Amusingly enough he is college friends with our neighbors (3 doors down) so we got to hang out with them as well. Next Saturday we have another Halloween party at our neighbor’s house. So it should be nice, but definately a busy few weeks. Hopefully we’ll get to cleaning the house again this weekend or next.

Other then that not too much going on here, other then this obnoxious cold I’ve had for over a week.
