Naps and Sleep are for anyone but Desmond!

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So Desmond has been going to bed late recently, since we’ve gotten back from India and actually a week or so before that. At this point if he gets to bed by 11pm we are happy, the past two nights have been midnight and 12:30. He has also decided that napping is not a good idea either. Yesterday he napped for 45 minutes, then fell asleep at 6pm for 3 hours (which didn’t help with the going to bed early). Today he just won’t go down. So I turned on Cars for him and he climbed onto the computer chair with me, where he apparently decided to fall asleep. While I appreciate the nap and all, if he would nap in his bed it would be so much nicer. He is so cute sleeping on my chair though.

Where’d that diaper go?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

So yesterday and this evening, I was in the living room and looked up and asked Dan, “What happened to Desmond’s diaper?” His response both times has been “Huh?”. In other words short stuff has started taking off his diaper, which won’t be a big deal, except they are snap diapers, we know he can and does (loves to in fact) take off velcro diapers, which is why we only use the snap ones now. Apparently he is starting to figure them out too. I am hoping it doesn’t happen to often because I really do like him in a diaper, it just feels safer somehow, since he does not seem at all ready to potty train yet.

Desmond Napping

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

So Desmond is napping right now, and I got a few pictures of him doing so. So here are a couple of pictures from today of Desmond napping in his bed. I’ll post some more on India in a day or three. Desmond has decided not to go to bed till 10 or 11pm at the moment which makes the evening challenging. On the plus side he’s cut down on the quantity of food he’s eating, though not a lot.

The bottomless pit!

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I was just having an e-mail discussion with my Mom which reminded me of a post I wanted to make. Why did no one mention that 19 month olds can eat more then everyone else in the house combined? Seriously the boy is packing away the food, I am really hoping it is a growth spurt because he is eating a ton.

For instance this morning till he took his nap at 11am he had:

2 bowls of pasta with cheese
a small red wax cheese
a bowl of blueberries
a bowl of pineapple
a granola bar
a bowl of raspberries
a tortilla shell
milk
2 small pieces of peppermint bark
a scoop of peppermint ice cream

Now the dog gets some of this, but not as much as one would expect and that is just this morning, the past two mornings he’s eaten more then this list. My mornings consist of him taking me to the fridge every 20 minutes or so to get him something else to eat. To be fair he does slow down some in the afternoon, but he still eats a fair amount then as well.

I am really hoping for another growth spurt even though he just had one a month ago or so, because he is raising our grocery bills all by himself.

Desmond and the Ravioli Caper

Friday, November 7th, 2008

So Desmond went to bed early last night, not as early as me, I erm fell asleep at his nap time and stayed asleep, but early none the less. So he was up around 3/3:30am. Between Dan and I we were able to keep him pretty happy till about 6am, when he decided it was time to go downstairs again. I took him downstairs and he led me to the fridge. Not a big deal, normally I open the fridge he gets what he wants and I close the fridge.

Not this morning though, this morning he points to the cheese drawer so I get him a thing of cheese, nope not what he wants. I take out the strawberries, he puts them back in, I offer an apple, he says “No, no, no!” He is reaching for something on the top shelf so I offer him some water, he shakes his head. I give up and close the fridge door after taking out and apple in case he decides to change his mind. He has a temper tantrum. After about 10 minutes I offer him stuff again, he keeps screaming, so I bring him back upstairs. It is around 6:45 by now. He doesn’t settle down upstairs but Dan gets up and we take him back downstairs, where Dan opens the fridge and Desmond takes out the Spinach Ravioli from Costco. He stops screaming and starts smiling. So we make the boy Ravioli for breakfast, and apparently that is just what he wanted, now why he won’t pull it out for me, I have no idea.

Gymboree Pictures

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Here are some pictures of Desmond from Gymboree. I took this on the Sunday before we left for India, they now offer a Sunday class which was nice and uncrowded with only 5 children.

On the computer

Desmond likes to climb, I’ve mentioned it before. He also knows how to pull out the dining room chairs now. So Dan left his computer up and running and his chair pushed in while he went to do something. He came back to see this.

1 M&M

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Desmond likes M&Ms, actually he likes chocolate, a lot. So I will let him have one or two when he asks for them once or twice a day. I figure that he is so active that 5 or so M&Ms a day isn’t doing him any harm. I do have to say though that I never realized how much mess 1 M&M could make until I had a toddler and gave him one.

Delayed posting

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

So one of the cool things about the blog is you can delay posts to come out when you schedule them too. I have a couple of pictures of Desmond and I figure if I can’t get on while I’m in India I’ll set it up so that there are a couple of days when I’m gone when the pictures of him will go up. So I’ve made a couple of posts with Desmond pictures that will go up while we’re gone, so you can get your cute toddler fix.

Sunglasses

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

When we went to Target today to get a couple of things we needed Desmond found a pair of sunglasses he wanted so we went ahead and got them for him. He is modeling them in the car, he quite likes his yoda sunglasses, though not enough to keep them on more then 10 minutes or so.

Let me just fix them so they are in the right spot
