nanowrimo, so I’m not insane…

November 6th, 2006

In other words I am so not participating. On the other hand Dan is. He has done over 2,000 words so far, which is good, but he needs to have 50k by the end of the month, and I have no clue how he figures he will finish. I wish everyone trying this the best of luck though. I will be sitting here watching and not writing since I know there is no way I would be able to finish a 50k word book in a month.

Cleaning and Such

November 6th, 2006

So we’re slowly buy surely trying to clean up the house. Last week was K’s room and the upstairs hallway, this week was the master bedroom and the guest room downstairs. Well K’s room is sort of done, though it still needs to be moved around and such, though since Dan was painting it isn’t a big deal. The hallway is a lot cleaner though there are still a few things to go. The master bedroom still has a bunch to be done, though I can do it this week, if I am motivated (hahaha). We did get the closet done in the baby’s room and Dan should be able to do the closet in K’s room next weekend. We also bought a new bed for our bedroom, since the Queen Bed just isn’t working now I’m pregnant, so King bed here we come!

I am hoping that we have the house mostly clean by New Years, we are slowly getting it done, but it is getting done though you can’t really tell yet.

Elections coming up

November 3rd, 2006

So the midterm elections are coming up on Tuesday. Which is great, I’ll go out and vote. However, the thing that is annoying me about them is the random people calling trying to get me to vote for their candidate. Let me tell you I don’t listen to the phone messages and even if I do they normally make me want to vote for your competitor. So if the politicians knew what they were doing they won’t be calling my house. Anyways we got a call today, which I let go to voice mail, since that normally stops over half the random calls. Was for someone or another, since I was in the kitchen getting breakfast I listened to the pitch, and went “Wow, nice to know now I am definitely voting for your opponent since I totally don’t agree with your take on this issue.” So I guess the people calling have done their duty they have me going out to vote, though their candidate is the last person I would vote for now. Go politics!

A Comic link

I really wish this worked in the real world. I have been having some annoying backaches recently and my midwife notes they aren’t likely to get any better.

Wicked

October 24th, 2006

Well since I’m pregnant and with Dan’s new job we aren’t going to get to NYC before the baby is born. So we won’t get to do our normal broadway play visit probably for at least a year or two (sigh). However, Wicked is apparently coming to Baltimore. So we got tickets. I went to get tickets on the first day they were avaliable but the seats were restricted view so I decided to wait a few days to get better seats. I apparently waited too long, and when I went back to ticketmaster on Sunday it appears all the Saturday evening shows were sold out, along with the Saturday and Sunday afternoon shows I checked. Fortunately there were seats left on Thursday Jan 25th, the evening show then. They aren’t the best seats but they are still Orchestra and they actually should work out well because they are aisle seats which is good for me since I will be 6+ months pregnant by then so if I need to get up for the bathroom I won’t disturb others during the show.

So we got our Wicked tickets which is nice and on a decent day. I can’t wait to see it again, we loved it when we went up over New Years last year (this year) and saw it on Broadway. It definately was high on our lists to see again, unlike Spamalot which neither of us were that impressed with.

I’m hoping that a few other shows will be hitting Baltimore or DC summer/fall 2007 so Dan and I can see at least one more show next year.

Updates on stuff

October 24th, 2006

So I haven’t posted much recently. Mainly because there hasn’t been a ton going on. I mean we’ve had various things happening, but nothing extremely exciting or such.

Dan started his new job on October 2nd and seems to be enjoying it. The few downsides to it, being he can’t work from home yet, probably not till it is perm rather then temp, so he missed my last midwife appointment, which wasn’t huge but still. Other problem being since he is temp right now he doesn’t get paid when he has federal holidays off which means he has to work his 40 hours on the other 4 days, which kinds of sucks and means we aren’t going down to my parents for Thanksgiving since he has to work the Friday after Thanksgiving. Oh well, will be the second time in the past 11 years we haven’t had Thanksgiving with my parents, and the other time was back when I was in Israel. No clue what we’re going to do instead, probably either go to his parents or down to my Aunt Mary’s.

Babywise everything is going well, not much different, I have my next doctor’s appointment on Friday, I should get to hear the heartbeat again which will be nice. Everything seems to be going well though I should probably be eating more dairy for calcium still. I’ll update this weekend or next week about the appointment. Should have the big Ultrasound sometime in November, I’m hoping for the 10th since Dan will be home for Veteran’s Day then anyways and it will make it easier for him to come.

Housewise, Dan has to put the border up in the baby’s room still, but other then that it is finished being painted. We need to buy the stuff to do the closet for all three upstairs rooms, maybe this weekend or next weekend. Dan’s also painted K’s room and done most of the trim work as well, we went with a purpleish/blue color with yellow trim in there it looks nice. The contractor came out yesterday so he can give us an estimate on some of the other housework that needs to be done. We are redoing two of the bathrooms, the first floor half bath and the upstairs main bath. Dan was recaulking the upstairs bath and found that the tile was loose so we have to have them retile it, and since they will be here we decided to see how much it would cost for them to retile the floors as well and put in the new fixtures and cabnets. Hopefully we’ll hear how much the damage will be next week. We still need to find a landscaper as well since Claire’s brother apparently only works in Towson area. We’ll get to that eventually I’m sure.

Other then that we’ve had a couple of semi busy weekends, last weekend we had a Halloween party to go to on Saturday which was fun. The week before that one of Dan’s friend’s from his old job was having a small get together for his birthday so we went to that. Amusingly enough he is college friends with our neighbors (3 doors down) so we got to hang out with them as well. Next Saturday we have another Halloween party at our neighbor’s house. So it should be nice, but definately a busy few weeks. Hopefully we’ll get to cleaning the house again this weekend or next.

Other then that not too much going on here, other then this obnoxious cold I’ve had for over a week.

This weekend and such

October 4th, 2006

So this weekend we went down to Richmond for my cousin’s Christening. It was nice, got to play with the baby some and see a lot of my relatives. Overall had a good time. The Christening went well and everyone had a good time overall.

Monday Dan started his new job. He didn’t do much work on Monday (well none really), but he did get to sit through welcome to your new job meetings. Yesterday he didn’t have meetings but he still didn’t get to do much since his main computer is not set up right at the moment so he can’t log in. His laptop works but it is windows based so it doesn’t really help him at all except for checking email. So he got to spend yesterday surfing the web mainly. Hopefully he will be able to get his computer working today, probably just in time to leave.

K’s Bordatello (or whatever it is called) shot ran out on Saturday, well sort of, day camp requires it every 6 months unlike the vet which requires it once a year, so when I brought him in for daycamp on Monday I learned this. Figured okay we’ll get him a vet appointment during the week. Unfortunately the Vet at our petsmart doesn’t have an opening till November 7th. Which so isn’t happening. Apparently they don’t have a Vet working there right now, sigh. So we got him an appointment on Friday at Arundal Mills Mall’s Petsmart and he’ll be back in camp on Monday. Which will be nice since he’s going to be hyper by tomorrow and this weekend will be a pain with him not having his second daycamp session this week.

Otherwise not much else going on.

Not much going on

September 26th, 2006

But I thought I would blog anyways. The house is a mess I should really start cleaning it some so that it will be clean by April. We had the contractors out last week, the hole in the ceiling is gone, the fixtures on the bathtub are changed and we have shutoff valves now, plus the toliet flange was fixed so all is well there. We still aren’t using the upstairs bathroom because they didn’t recaulk so Dan is doing it, or he may just call them back since it was on the contract, I don’t know if he is going to bother or not.

This past weekend Dan repainted over the squares in the baby’s room since we found the border we want to use, and he’ll probably repaint again the weekend of the 7th and then put up the border. We still need to call landscapers about the yard so we can get something done to the front and back, we have Claire’s (Noah’s (my brother) girlfriend) brother’s info we just haven’t called yet. We also need to redo the upstairs bathroom with next sink and toliet and put new closet stuff in our and baby’s closet (we’re doing K’s room too but that can wait a bit).

Other then that there isn’t much else going on, Dan is down to 3 days of work left at his current job, he starts the new one on Monday, it should work out well. He has meetings for about 4 hours on Monday to learn company policies and such. The Cobra payment is going to suck, we were hoping for around $650 a month, it is going to be $850 a month. Fortunately it looks like it should only be for three months, since the new health insurance should cover the pregnancy as long as we are covered the whole time before we swap.

This weekend we’re heading down to Richmond for my newest cousin Owen’s Christening, I’ll find get to see him. He is almost 6 months old. We got him a cool sketch at Disney which my uncle should like, it is of Eyore. In fact it was so cool we had a second one done for our baby’s room. I’ll see my Mom again and my sister, which will be nice since I didn’t see her when we stopped at the lake house on the way to Disney because she was working. Saw my other two sibs then.

Okay so apparently I can rattle on about not much. Anyways think that is all for tonight it is getting late so I’ll probably head to bed soon. I’m debating a third cupcake, but that might be a bit excessive.

Mom was visiting

September 17th, 2006

So my mom was here this weekend. I just saw her last weekend at my Aunt’s birthday party, but this time she was up to visit Dan and me. We picked her up Friday at the airport, well rental car return area at the airport but still, since she had driven down from her meeting in Delaware. We went to the outlet mall. Grabbed lunch and then went shopping. We bought Dan some new shoes, and new outfits for his business casual work place. It was nice and we found stuff on sale. We got him some slacks and shirts, though he will probably need a few more shirts eventually. We looked for a trench coat for Dan because he is going to be taking the subway and walking to work as part of his commute so a trench coat will come in handy on nasty days. We couldn’t find one though.

We bought me a few maternity clothes, one of the reasons she was visiting, and we bought the blob a bunch of neutral clothes since we don’t know if it is a boy or girl yet, I’m betting girl, my mom is betting boy, Dan is trying not to get involved in the arguement. We then stopped at Target and picked up more maternity clothes so I now have a decent sized maternity wardrobe for when I need it, and stopped and picked up dinner. Lots of shopping, but we did get a bunch of stuff which is nice.

Saturday we stopped by Home Depot to see what they had for closet organizers because we are planning to redo the baby’s, K-line’s and our closets. We also looked at bathroom pieces since we are planning to redo the upstairs bathroom as well. We priced a few things and continued on our journey. We stopped for lunch and then headed to Baby’s R Us. We looked at all the stuff they had, decided we liked the feel of one of the Graco stroller/travel systems better then one of the other ones. Looked at cribs. Bought more baby clothes (shocking as that may be), and bought the comforter/baby set for bedding. We couldn’t find 3 packages of the border we want for the baby’s room though. We found one, but not 3. So we figured we would order it online, silly thought, you can only get the border in the store. We also went to Ikea to check out the various things they have because we are changing around our entertainment centers, planning to get rid of both of them and get a simpler style for them, plus we need display somethings for all the collectables. We saw a few decent things that we may pick up later.

We then headed to Target to check out if they had any closet organizers (they didn’t) and home for a bit. After relaxing for awhile we went out to Melting Pot, which was as good as always though our waiter was really really slow. Overall a nice night though.

We then dropped my Mom off at the airport this morning and headed over to the Mall. We found a trenchcoat at Macy’s that we liked so we put a hold on it and checked a few other stores. We didn’t see anything else we liked as much so we headed back to Macy’s, we picked up a casual sportsjacket as well for Dan to wear over his stuff in the office. We then bought both pieces and had lunch.

After lunch was more Home Depot, but we forgot to measure so we weren’t sure what sizes we needed for the dryer vent or the closet top things. So we just headed home and relaxed. Overall a nice, busy weekend with my Mom.

And to think I get to see her again in two weekends for my cousin’s Christening.
